DESCRIPTION:The SOURCE and Oaklawn will host The Power of Peers: Navigating Ethics and Team Dynamics in Mental Health on August 20 at Ivy Tech Community College. Designed for mental health providers and those who refer clients for mental health services\, this training explains the unique value of peer support professionals on mental health teams. Attendees will hear about ethical challenges of teams with peers\, how critical pitfalls are avoided\, and learn to effectively include peer support services as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. \nEvent Details\nThe Power of Peers: Navigating Ethics and Team Dynamics in Mental Health\nAugust 20\, 2026\, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. \nIvy Tech Community College\nGoshen \n\nClinicians who complete this training will receive 2 Category I Ethics CEUs.\nFree registration is required and limited to the first 90 registrants.\nSnacks and water will be provided. Drinks from The Electric Brew on campus are available for purchase.\n\nLearning Objectives\nAs a result of this training\, participants will: \n\nGain awareness of the various roles peer support professionals play within mental health teams.\nUnderstand the differences between mental health provider roles.\nLearn common ethical dilemmas in the field of peer support and compare them to traditional mental health therapy dilemmas.\nKnow ethical pitfalls professionals must avoid to bring quality care to shared clients.\nProcess considerations to enhance one’s own ethical practice as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.\n\nPresenters\nThis training will be led by three presenters\, along with a panel of peers from diverse backgrounds who all work at Oaklawn. \nAnisa Carter\, CPSP CCPC CCPSC MHFA\, is the Orientation and Training Specialist for Peer Support Staff at Oaklawn. Anisa provides leadership and development of peer staff as well as providing peer services to peers as they navigate working in the mental health and addictions field. Along with lived experience in substance use and incarceration\, Anisa has worked with adults with mental illness in case management and crisis capacities. \nKaylene Ediger\, MA Ed\, is the Family Peer Coordinator at The SOURCE. She has 30 years of parenting a son with autism and a son with mental health challenges and has worked to navigate the educational\, behavioral health and disability systems. Before joining The SOURCE\, she worked as an educator for 30 years. \nBrooke Marshall\, MSW\, LCSW\, LCAC is the Manager of Adult Addictions at Oaklawn\, where she provides leadership and oversight for therapists\, skills trainers\, case managers\, and peer support staff. Whether based on personal or work experiences\, stories from people you know\, or from T.V. and movies\, almost everyone has some sort of image of what DCS is like. One goal of our System of Care Consortium is to gain a better understanding of how our systems work and how we can all support each other in making Elkhart County a safe and healthy place for our children and families. We are so excited to have the Local Office Director of DCS for Elkhart County\, Jim Cornish\, as the presenter for our September meeting. \nJim will discuss the current successes and challenges facing our DCS office\, help us understand how processes work\, share local data\, and provide time for your questions. We will better understand DCS\, as well as how we\, as a community\, can help support our DCS workers and create better outcomes for our kids. \nMedicaid Highlight: We are also pleased to have Martha Leon\, Coordinator for Insurance Navigation at Oaklawn\, join us!
